| The Family Kitchen : Easy and Delicious Recipes for Parents and Kids to Make and Enjoy Together Debra Ponzek
I really like the concept behind this recently published, gorgeously laid out cookbook. Ponzek sets out to create a true family kitchen, where kids are encouraged to get involved and hang out, and food preparation is centered around fresh seasonal ingredients. The first chapter gives some tips for cooking with kids and each recipe features a box that lists the steps children can complete.
The author is a chef with three kids, and the recipes reflect that. They're definitely home cooking, but home cooking from a classicly trained chef, so the dishes look simple yet sophisticated and flavorful. The recipes are put together with kids in mind, although extremely picky kids probably won't find much here except for breakfast and desserts, which almost all kids love. But there are definitely things I want to try on my kids, and recipes I want to try just for me and my husband.
A fair amount of the recipes involve grilling, and the perennial favorites chicken and turkey are well represented. Recipes I'd like to try include Classic Popovers, Barbecued Turkey Burgers, Individual Zuchinni & Cheddar Frittatas, and the Rigatoni with Ricotta, Tomato, and Basil.
