| 50 Chowders : One Pot Meals - Clam, Corn, & Beyond Jaspar White
I think one mark of a good book is that it can make you interested in something you've never considered or cared much about before. Chowders for example. I've never been hugely excited about cooking chowders, maybe because they're so full of butter and cream and shellfish - three things I don't use much in my kitchen. But I've always enjoyed a good bowl of clam or corn chowder at a restaurant, and Jaspar White's book makes me believe, at least while I'm reading it, that I'll be chopping clams and whisking milk in no time.
The book includes a fascinating history of chowder and chowdering (no really, it's quite interesting), and a huge variety of chowder recipes. Fifty I guess, considering the title. I didn't get a chance to cook anything out of the book before I had to return it to the library, but if I see a used copy for a reasonable price I'll definitely scoop it up.
